I enjoyed most of the story but fell asleep with the woman who read it to me. The Day of the Duchess. I think it is time I take a break from MH for a while, and wait until she comes out with a better book.

This book missed the boat for me. Maybe its just that I dont like bossy males too much lol But, the side characters are funny and Im looking forward for the next ones. That got her attention.
The heroine of this book is unsurprisingly a Miss Fairbourne, first name Emma. She effortlessly explicates the or between England and France and showcases the role smuggling played during this era. There is another way to achieve her surrender, one far more pleasurable for both of them One of the rare books I have started giving to my favorite people. It is hard to know which just yet.
The staff did a commendable job with the catalog. Her expression perceptibly altered.

It can continue, but only if it is known to be owned and managed by a man. The hero never did have to check his domineering tendencies. There were also some lovely descriptions of tender moments, where you are reminded of how alone and out-of-her-depth Emma must be feeling: I liked that the characters evolved and realized that things aren’t black and white.
I am willing to overlook all of that. The story began very nicely, and I liked both the male and female protagonists. Which shouldn’t have worked for a romance because you generally want the guy to have a girl you like but Hunter actually made it work, at least for me.

Yeah, those disadvantages are socially constructed, but she faces them nonetheless and her efforts to work around them seemed both genuine and courageous even if doomed to eventual failure there’s only so long you can maintain a front-man on an operation that has so much public contact as you do in an auction house. This is a woman who right up until the final pages understands any arrangement with our hero would likely be as a mistress, not a wife.
And the ex-friend in old fashioned clothes. The death of her father has left her with a business that no longer has an obvious leader.
There is just something about the language she uses that is more eloquent than the average romance author. Emma’s father has passed away and all tha that is left is his auction house. Obediah often helped my father with the catalog and much, much more, and has an excellent eye. The whole entire book was devoted to getting him back and then when he is back it is like no big woop.

These fajrbourne people on the ground in the capital, operating in a functioning city, not flitting from one ballroom to the next. I read this a while ago, and I can actually remember the fact that I found it boring.

Her characters take their time to fall in love and frustrate one another, but the ending is more satisfying for it. Emma, who has had very little experience with men, finds Darius difficult to resist and soon their relationship is about both the fate of the auction house and whether or not the fairboirne will become lovers.
