The radials should be installed so that they do not touch the ground, nor the roof nor any other obstacle. As with the CP-6 the radials can be mounted on onde side only.
For operation on HF no further radials are required! Was a bit scared purchasing a vertical trap, but living in base diamnod means space restricted.
Although not now in production, and it should be, I have a Cushcraft R5 which is about 15 years old, and the only time it causes any trouble is when it soaking wet and the 17 metre trap jumps to 1: The BB-7V is a wideband antenna, so it works also outside cp-5ns amateur bands.
Diamond CP5H any thoughts? I assembled the antenna, just as it was taken down leaving all the radials as they were and a quick tune around showed no difference to the tune from 2. Uses PVC coated braided copper wire 1.

Whether the price agrees with the performance remains to be seen. The radials can be installed on one side only if space restriction requires.
G4ILOJan 18, Appreciate the feedback and I will check out the Hustler. I have only had this antenna for a week, but it certainly performs as advertised. K6FIJan 22, So it would be worth getting some stuff to try to prevent that, when you assemble it. Weight only 4kg, transport length only 1. K6FIJan 18, K6FIJan 25, So nice and stable and it did a great job for the day, lots of band activity and little band noise due to a good location away from electrical noise sources, ADSL etc.
The radiator is grounded, thus preventing static discharge. I was hoping that with the CP5H being 11 or so foot, that I could mount on a 10 to 15 foot mast and keep it up always.

Due to the shortened design of the antenna the usable bandwith can be limited, a tuner might be required. All in all, I am not unhappy with my purchase, although it would be nice if it were a bit less expensive.
Add to shopping cart. They are quite easy to tune up by changing the length of radials.
Keep up the good work, Diamond. It when up in around 1 hour on a 10′ pole. Antenna for 7, 14, 21, 28 and 50MHz, length only 3. Both signal reports were just above the diamondd level, so performance isn’t spectacular, especially since I’m only running watts.

So 80 is no great loss. The factory settings were right on the spot for most bands. Already have many European contacts in the log including 40m. Total length only approx 3m MV A wire antenna withe the same principle is the Diamond BB-6W. The antenna works on all bands as a quarter wave cp-5ha. This thing is years ahead in terms of craftmanship and materials compared to Cushcraft. I narrowed my options to Cushcraft, Comet and Diamond.
I will look into the R Made of telescopic aluminum tubes which are fixed with stainless steel hose clamps, including solid mast mount. Please note the variants of the idamond radial. Includes mast clamps 30 to 62mm and PL connector. For the same reason a short cable with a choke is included in the shipment.
If that gets it above most of the trees, bushes and surrounding buildings there won’t be much gained by having it any higher. I have heard of people having issues getting the Hustler BTV’s to load up correctly because I have been researching them as they are cheap and once you get them tuned, they work diaamond you have to add radials also Simple installation, no alignment required.
The radiator of the Cp-5hss is DC-grounded which gives a good protection against static charges and nearby lightnings. I was VERY pleased.
